Well here we are about to close out September and it’s been quite a month if I do say so myself. Summer is officially over, kids are back in school, and we are turning the corner into the later part of the year and the holiday season!
Last week I had the privilege of attending a yearly mastermind meeting in Palm Desert, CA with 30 other health wellness and beauty practitioners. It was really great to spend time with some of the smartest, most successful ladies in the industry. It’s always such a refreshing and rejuvenating experience with these ladies, and I am such a firm believer in consistently seeking out ways to continue my education and keep my professional perspective focused and ever-evolving.
As I mark an almost twenty-year career as an esthetician and skincare specialist, I realize more and more just how important it is for me to seek out ways for continuing to learn and plug into the pulse of the beauty industry (both for me personally AND for my clients).
There are always ways to get involved in continuing your education as a beauty professional. Whether it be industry trade shows, conferences, mastermind groups, or even just reaching out to the vendors whose products and equipment you use to see if there are any new processes, techniques, products, or updates.
I try to visit the vendors whose products I use regularly and keep a great relationship going with them. I recently had training on some new treatment processes at Hydrafacial and absolutely loved it!
Building relationships with other like-minded professionals in your field who are serious about being at the top of their game is also important and helps to drive a renewed motivation in your own business. There’s so much you can learn from your fellow beauty pros and just as much that they can potentially learn from you. The energy and ideas that come from getting together to talk shop with other “esty sisters” or beauty bosses is refreshing! You know what they say…”birds of a feather, flock together”.
One of the things I love most about these weekend mastermind groups that I attend is the strong sense of community and sisterhood that organically grows as soon as we all get back together. Women I don’t necessarily see or talk to on a regular basis, other female beauty professionals whose mutual stories we might not even know, we are all there together, shoulder to shoulder, sharing the heart of what we go through day in and day out…. And they get it! It’s so refreshing.
I come back from these professional events completely recharged and ready to give my clients 110% off myself. There’s so much to be said for getting together with other women who support you, inspire you, and sometimes even call you out when you need to be corrected. I love that this can all be done in an environment of team-building exercises, yoga or another group exercise, even physical or emotional exploratory excursions. So it’s not just a one-dimensional speaker talk.
Every time I return, my clients see a difference, my family sees a difference, and I sure as heck feel a difference. One client let me know that I was absolutely glowing and had such an unspoken aura of positivity (even more than I normally do). After one of these weekend masterminds, I can always see how my connections with my clients develop deeper and I get to pour more of myself and a renewed positivity into their treatment sessions.
So if you are a beauty professional or female entrepreneur, I can’t encourage you enough to seek out a group or mastermind of others like yourself that you too can grow and learn from, inspire and be inspired by. You’ll thank yourself in the end, but more importantly, your clients will thank you too!
